Desert, Stone Country, Sand spinifex deserts; dry acacia scrublands and eucalypts bordering watercourses. Far inland parts of central-western Australia to Northern Territory and northern South AustraliaBelts of timber near watercourses

Breeding

September to December. 4 to 6; white. Female incubates and broods the nest while the male feeds her, incubation period 20 days. Young fledge in 5-6 wks.

Diet

Herbivore, Seeds of various grasses - mainly porcupine grass.
