Description

A sparrow-sized kingfisher, rich glossy dark-blue above with white or buff spot on side of neck; orange-rufous below clouded blue on sides; feet red. Immature: dull-blue above, underparts paler.

Habits

Diurnal, Adult pair usually keep a permanent territory of aoubt 200-500 mtrs of waterfront. Confined to streamside vegetation but moves into woodland areas in the Wet.

Habitat

Coastal Wetlands Forest , Fresh & salt water streams and inlets along forested coastal streams and mangrove-lined waterways.

Breeding

October to April, 5 to 6; white Usually two broods a year, incubation 20-22 days by both sexes. Young fledge in 3-4 wks.

Carnivore, Feeds primarily on fish and other aquatic animals. Small mammals; small birds; nestlings and eggs; reptiles.
