Habits

Diurnal, Usually seen in flocks of 30 to 1000 birds. Foraging together. In breeding season they separate into pairs that may be permanent. Each pair defends a nest tree. Do not breed until 3-4 yrs old.

Habitat

Grassland, Forest, Woodland, Open country; belts of timber; watercourses.

Breeding

September to November. 3 to 5 white eggs deposited on a layer of eucalypt leaves on the floor of a high tree cavity. Adults live in pairs and mate for life, both defend permanent territories. Birds rarely mate until at least two years old. Both sexes incubate and care for the young. Eggs hatch in about 30 days and young remain in the nest for a further 60 days.
