Habitat

Eurasia, introduced widely around the world. In Australia widespread in the eastern half of the continent occasionally in the Northern Territory. Widely distributed both urban and country areas.

Breeding

Breeding season spring, summer, but often at other times. 5 to 6 eggs usually; variable in colour but usually greyish-white, finely spotted ashy-grey brown. Incubation period 12-14 days by female, male shares in nest building and feeding of the young. Young fledge in 14-15 days.

Diet

Herbivore, Soft fruits; seedlings and flowers. Insects and scraps.
