Habits
Diurnal. Flight is slow and heavy-looking but it is a strong flier and able to cover long distances. Roost in clumps or trees. At dawn they feed and spend the day in the open.

Notes
Decline in numbers thought to be due to grazing, and hunting by foxes
Breeding
September to December. 1 to 2 eggs; laid on bare ground in grass and incubated by the female.
