Description
The smallest Australian kingfisher; deep glossy purplish above extending to side of white breast; white spot before eye and on side of neck, feet black.
Habits
Diurnal, Solitary, unobtusive and sedentary, it is rarely seen. Confined to streamside vegetation. Shy, flight very swift and direct.
Habitat
Coastal Wetlands, densely mangrove-lined estuaries; rainforest edges; well vegetated coastal creeks.
Breeding
November December January February, 5; white, rounded glossy. Incubation by both sexes. One brood per season.
