Description

An erect pale-brown duck with pathcy pink bill, long pink legs and upswept cream flank-plumes; throat and underparts pale; sides of chest reddish, finely barred darker. Immature: paler.

Habits

Nocturnal, Loud whistling call During the day cluster densely on the ground near water and at night stream out in groups to feed elsewhere on the plains. During dry season gregarious, gathering in flocks.

Habitat

Wetlands Grassland, Streams; lakes and swamps; inland waters; floodplains; mangrove creeks; estuarine pools.

Breeding

September October November December, 8 to12; pale cream, nest ground hollow lined with grass.Incubation by both sexes 28 days.
