Usually feed, roost, rest and fly in compact flocks of up to 100 or more.

Habitat

Wetlands, Brackish and saline surface waters, inland waters and fringing forests.

Breeding

August September October November December but influenced by climatic conditions, 4 eggs, olive-brown. Both sexes build the nest, incubate and brood the young. Incubation period 3-4 wks.

Diet

Omnivore, tiny crustaceans; aquatic insects; worms; molluscs and seeds.
