Habits
Nocturnal, migratory Roosts by day on bare ground, At breeding and wintering grounds they are solitary or disperse in pairs to nest, but when shifting about they often move inloose groups of 10-15.
Habitat
Stone Country Grassland Woodland, Almost entirely terrestrial, sparsely wooded stony and sandy rises of all mainland.
Notes
The Northern Territory population is augmented by migrants from southern Australia during the Dry Season (Schodde and Mason, 1980.)
Breeding
September October November December January, 1; yellowish olive to pale green. One brood per season, incubation 20 days by both sexes, young brooded and fed by both adults, fledge by 4 wks.
