Description

Very short horn-coloured bill, pale creamy-buff eyebrown, whitish eye and streaked ear-coverts, brownish tail with blackish band and pale tips.

Habits

Diurnal, Takes insects from the leaves, sometimes hovering on the outside of the tree and sometimes flying up and taking them mid-air.

Habitat

Woodland Forest Stone Country, Outer foliage on saplings and taller trees; hovers, eucalypt woodlands; open woodland; escarpment.

Notes

Shortest bird in Australia. Loud musical song

Breeding

August September October November December, 2 to 3; creamy-buff, purplish-brown markings. Females incubate the eggs for about 12 days. Young fly in about 10 days.
